Hi Will,
In Melbourne the VK3RWN Dstar site is owned by a commercial communications
company by the name of JRD, the owners of this site are in favor of
Amateur Radio and have made rack and tower space available for the Dstar
system at no charge, the EMDRC radio club pays the electricity bill to
keep the equipment on the air. AA Radio (who are another commercial 2 way
company) and others have made some very considerable donations in terms of
equipment, resources and access to their qualified tower workers etc who
helped with the installation at the JRD site. In return their companies
were given appropriate acknowledgment at the Dstar Launch event. For Melb
it really has been a community project with support pulled together from
commercial organisations. JRD and others see Amateur Radio as a positive
activity that is worth supporting as it provides ongoing interest and
training for those who may wish to take up a career in the two way
industry. I'd suggest you will find amateurs inside most commercial two
way organisations. Perhaps a similar approach as we used in Melb will
produce a favorable results for WA as well.
Cheers
Robert
