G'day everone
Please be aware that the first D-Star repeater in New South Wales is now
licenced and operational. VK2RDS C is on air on 146.7625MHz with the usual
negative offset of 600Khz. Stay tuned for confirmation of the 70cm and 23cm
repeaters frequencies and operational status along with the Internet
Gateway.
Cheers

Hello all,
In VK6 we are working on the D-star repeater site
and costs are of prime concern for our local
repeater club (WARG) who have taken on the
project and many of the costs involved.
Rent for the good site that has been found
for the D-star repeater, along with an analogue
repeater, is of concern.
What has happened in the rest of Australia in
terms of rent costs...?
Any info would be appreciated as we need to
know where our club sits in terms of costs.
D-star is an added cost that is above the
normal running costs of the club which has
budgeted for decades based on analogue
repeaters etc.

While my club is not currently looking at D-star repeaters, we have four
FM voice repeaters, three of them linked, and a spare site, and at our
meeting this Saturday we'll be hearing about how the New South Wales
Department of Crown Lands wants to become financially involved in our
tenancy on two or three sites. Selling sausage sandwiches at the local
Bunnings was one fund-raising plan.

Hi Will,
In Melbourne the VK3RWN Dstar site is owned by a commercial communications
company by the name of JRD, the owners of this site are in favor of
Amateur Radio and have made rack and tower space available for the Dstar
system at no charge, the EMDRC radio club pays the electricity bill to
keep the equipment on the air. AA Radio (who are another commercial 2 way
company) and others have made some very considerable donations in terms of
equipment, resources and access to their qualified tower workers etc who
helped with the installation at the JRD site. In return their companies
were given appropriate acknowledgment at the Dstar Launch event. For Melb
it really has been a community project with support pulled together from
commercial organisations. JRD and others see Amateur Radio as a positive
activity that is worth supporting as it provides ongoing interest and
training for those who may wish to take up a career in the two way
industry. I'd suggest you will find amateurs inside most commercial two
way organisations. Perhaps a similar approach as we used in Melb will
produce a favorable results for WA as well.
Cheers
Robert
