Hello all,
Thanks to all of you that responded to my query about site
rental costs. Yes amateur radio on commercial sites, or any
site for that matter has changed from 30 years ago to say
the least. All understood. We often have amateurs say why
don't we put a repeater here etc? Answer you find the site
and do the paper work and we will look at it.
Our D-star installation has generated the concern over cost.
At our meeting last night (WARG) good progress was made and
a better understanding of the wider picture was obtained.
There is no conflict or disagreement just concern at doing
the D-star job right and our club (WARG) being fully aware
of all it needs to be aware of. Cost is one concern. Site
long term availability is another. These isuues have been
worked through and I believe these are just the normal
problems associated with what is a complex installation.
The site issues will be placed in writing soon and we all
look forward to putting the site on air. The site is a new
one obtained by amateurs mainly for the D-star project
but in order to cover costs there will be some commercial
equipment. The amateurs who found the site and did all
the work have provided AR in VK6 with a valuable asset.
The location is a very high RF area. I believe there are
about 500 TX licences in about a 500M radius along with
high power TV, FM and a 1.2GHz (or there abouts) radar
installation.
When we first connected my IC800 D-star up to the just
installed antenna (2M) the S meter was full scale across
the entire 2M band....! It turned out to be RX overload
and a pandpass cavity fixed the situation.
Steve the multiband system you have been involved with
for many years needs a good article with good pictures
in AR magazine....How about it...?
