Hi Guys
Chargers are for CHARGING not transmitting while on the charger....DC leads
are made for transmitting...I hope this clears up the situation

Thanks for the information. I had actually seen the comment in the
owners manual as well, but I was not sure if it referred only to the
specified chargers or all chargers. I'm using the one that came with
the device - I think it has the type code BC-6167A/D. I did check that
the unloaded voltage coming from the charger is a tad over 16V but I
can't measure it when connected to the radio without stripping wires
etc (which I don't want to do). The charger transformer itself says
that the output is 12V @300mAm but it would appear to carry the part
number BM-95V (or possibly AS-5993S???). I also note that the
'supplied charger' is mentioned as having the part number BC-123 on
the next page (page 11) so I have no idea.
