G'day,

D-Star is a new way of communications with new features and functions that
everyone should be able to experiment with and enjoy.

To assist with this enjoyment the Recommended Guide for GPS beacons on
D-Star at this point in time is:

Automatic GPS Beacons and Slow Speed data should be kept to port C as a
secondary service.

Port B should be kept clear for voice communications.

When using Automatic GPS Beacons use the following Auto TX timings
(transmission beacon rates):

10 Minutes for Mobiles and Portable stations.

30 Minutes for Home stations. (This is the maximum that the 2820 will allow)

Slow Speed Data experimentation should only be used on Port C in times where
the repeater is not being used for voice communications. (Except for VK3RBA
Port B where D-Rats experimentation is occurring)

Manual GPS positioning can be used on any port at any time in conjunction
with voice communications. I.e. when in voice communications with another
party.

With automatic GPS beacons operating on D-Star it is important that you
leave a minimum of 4 seconds between overs to allow time for beacons to be
transmitted.

This arrangement will allow operators to experiment with all new features of
D-Star and at the same time provide a primary voice system.

These are preliminary guide lines that apply to 'Full Stack' D-Star
repeaters, that is D-Star repeater systems that have Ports A, B & C
installed. This preliminary Recommended Guide will be reviewed over time.

Cheers

Richard
