[Dstar] First World Wide D-Star Net

Unfortunately, moving back two hours puts it at 6AM in San Francisco, the
largest group of dstar users on any repeater. There really was no good time
for a world net. I considered a split-time net where checkins were taken at
two different times.

Hi Ray,
It will always be hard to organise a world wide net however if the net was
to moved back in time by 2hrs it would be 11:00hrs here 06:00hrs in LA,
09:00hrs in NY and 14:00hrs in the UK.
This is probably the best compromise that I could think of at this time of
the year.
A good web site for world time information is http://www.worldtimezone.net/
Cheers
Richard.

Eric WD8KNL who is the admin for the KD8DRG system were discussing that this
morning and probably what should have happened was that you folks on RWN
should have been called first but times don't get really friendly for you
folks until after 12:00 EST which is currently 22:00 EDT. When we go off
DST and you folks go back to DST then it works a bit better for us as well
as noon AEST becomes 20:00 here in the eastern US but over all it went well.

Gday,
Here are the results of the first World Wide D-Star repeater net.
>From all accounts it was a great success.
If there is another World Wide D-Star net I'll request that it be organized
for a more friendly time for this part of the world.
Cheers

The first worldwide D-Star net was held yesterday, 2008-05-11. The net went
smoothly with no glitches in the reflector 001 infrastructure provided by
Kermit, W9XA. The new dplus and multi-gateway reflector code was well
stress tested with no problems.
We tried a new check in paradigm. Users were called on each individual
repeater and were instructed to key down one second with no audio to check
in. They were then called individually to provide first name and location.
All in all, it worked better than I expected. Admins can check their
/var/log/dplus.log file for all of the details of the net.
Statistics for the net: 28 gateways with 61 RF checkins, 17 DV Dongle
checkins. Elapsed time was one hour and 36 minutes.
Check in details (sorry for any name/location typos):
