ICOM new D-STAR models

Being marketed as ideal starter transceivers for any radio amateur or
those wanting to get into D-STAR, are ICOM’s latest models the IC-80D &
ID-880.

They have a new user interface called 'D-STAR repeater mode' that allows
the access to a D-STAR repeater in just two steps. Configuration software
will be a free download from the Internet.

The IC-80D hand-held VHF/UHF 5-watt transceiver has an optional GPS
microphone that can show position data.

The ID-880 50-watt mobile transceiver has a large LCD display. Both the
IC-80D and the ID-880 can also operate on normal FM analogue simplex and
repeaters channels.

It is not known when these new models will go on sale.
