Disagree. D-Star is still relatively new and if it is to succeed needs more
users which means, of course, more need training. On the other hand, if the
present number of active users is all there will ever be I fear for it's
future...

I agree it's time to take the 4 Second announcement off. One doesn't need to
have the training wheels on forever.

Today I found some problems with the gateway to vk3rwn-c.
I was using the dongle and monitoring the repeater on me 91ad and
noticed several times
during qso that vk3rwn was not receiving traffic from the gateway.
I was working a station from America when the signal dropped out and was
not heard on vk3rwn and
yet I could still work the station but 2 other stations using RF could
not hear or work the American station.
The problem appears to be with the gateway switching.
I wonder if any other station is experiencing the same or similar problems.
Brian vk3nay.

Hi Everybody,
I've just uploaded a video to YouTube showing my homebrew hardware
interface that connects a Satoshi DV Node Adapter based repeater to an
Icom ID-RP2C controller.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MALY_mEDp_8
This allows direct control of the CMX589 GMSK modem chip and radios from
the RP2C controller. Other interesting possibilities that are possible
with this kind of setup is a DV repeater on 10m or 6m.
While there are no commercial D-Star radios on 10m or 6m at the moment,
there are a few DV adapters that can D-Star enable FM-N radios and the
IC-9100 is being released next year which will have DV D-Star on 10m and 6m.
Michael.

G'day Chris,
I agree, it would be nice to remove it. It's a shame there are a few people
that don't take any notice of it and not leave a four second break. It's a
pain in the backside when there's a group running and an extra person tries
to break in between overs, whether it be via RF or DV-Dongle (even harder).
In the main, most people leave a good break. I guess it's part of the
education process that the periodical announcement is there. So, as much as
it would be nice to lose it, it's probably the best for now to leave it
there. Probably having the announcement occur less often would be better -
perhaps double or triple the time delay between announcements would be more
appropriate.
I assume these announcements are generated at each particular site gateway
and not elsewhere?
Cheers and Merry Christmas,
Nik Presser
