James, VirtualBOX is quite simple, and i believe it will be effective for
you.

Simply download it from the Sun website as it is free.
create a new 'virtual server/PC' deciding how much RAM/HDD/CPU you want to
allocate for the task you require (baring in mind WinXP's OS system
requirements).

Once you have decided and set this, it will all appear like a normal
'PC/Server' with a bios etc. You will have to 'connect' a virtual CD if you
want to boot from an XP disc etc. Otherwise you can mount directly from an
ISO of the install CD.

Once you get this far, it should all be smooth sailing as it should all look
and feel like another Server/PC.
