Hi Heath,

Well my ears are not closed, I will look at virtual box today. I might need some help with that as well so I will give you a call such recommended Ram. I am expecting my flex radio to be delivered within the next few days as well and that has a problem with VAC "virtual audio cable" that is a Russian program that has an issue with a driver as well. This of course links the digital programs up to Power SDR that is the heart of flex radio. 

It seems we need to be IT experts these days to play ham radio, I am beginning to wonder, I will look at virtual box today, if it's not to intensive or cumbersom on the machine (or me) that may be a good workaround for the ID-1. I am usually on VK2RWN port C or skype. Even if I don't use it I have learnt something. Thanks for sharing.

Simply download it from the Sun website as it is free.
create a new 'virtual server/PC' deciding how much RAM/HDD/CPU you want to allocate for the task you require (baring in mind WinXP's OS system requirements).

Once you have decided and set this, it will all appear like a normal 'PC/Server' with a bios etc. You will have to 'connect' a virtual CD if you want to boot from an XP disc etc. Otherwise you can mount directly from an ISO of the install CD.

Once you get this far, it should all be smooth sailing as it should all look and feel like another Server/PC.

You are venturing into an area I really don't know too much about   however I will make it my business to find out. In the meantime I will apply more pressure to a contact I have in the US. I can do the push F8 routine at boot up but it is more the point of why should I with that sought of radio. For those also interested "Virtual Audio Cable" for flex-radio and the USB "SCS" ptc pactor modem are in the same driver problem category.

If anyone would like to try MWare VirtualServer, I have some keys you can try, or register with VMWare and they will give you a free one.

Hi Tony,

Yes, it runs as 32 bit app however the 64bit are kernal based drivers. The bcedit test mode or F8 at boot up selection is a work around but not so nice for a radio like that :-(

These days, it seems a bit poor that there wouldn't be a 64 bit driver.  64 bit is now mainstream with Vista, combined with common PC configurations having 4GB RAM.  I have 1 machine here running Vista 64 bit myself.
