Fw: [Dstar] DSTAR DX?

Oh, one more comment. I've worked VK3RBA-B (Mt Buninyong - Ballarat) from Hamilton (Western Vic) on many occasions when the FM repeater on the same band wasn't achievable. And the fact that the
temporary repeater on Mt Wombat VK3RWW-B has been working so well whilst it's been up there, is a great example of how well D-Star repeaters can work. I've been able to hear VK3RWW-B direct from home at Geelong whereas I could rarely or never hear the 70cmFM repeater. This stuff is good for D-Star and has got to be strongly promoted. It's another seller for D-Star.

Cheers,

G'day Mark and everyone on the list...

Firstly, feel free to add comments to the topic on the VK Logger http://www.vklogger.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=8042

Testing I've done thus far, is that using DV has a better usable range than FM on the same band, power, antenna, etc. Simplex DV transmissions have a better usable range than simplex FM. Compare apples with apples. Compare VK3RBA-B vs VK3RBA70cmFM which shares common equipment.

The problem thus far has been trying to find a couple of stations that are D-Star capable that are ideally located. I've also tried to put the word out prior to Spring & Summer VHF/UHF Field Days for anyone wishing to do some D-Star DX testing but get little response - perhaps I haven't been posting messages in the right areas.

Maybe we should start promoting some serious D-Star DX for the upcoming Spring VHF/UHF Field Day...?? Now that there's more capable operators around perhaps it's a possible thing.

Cheers,

  Gday,

Anyone playing DSTAR DX? I am interested in having a ago at seeing just
how far a simplex signal can get.

I reckon that Horizontal polarization would be best???

Let me know your thoughts and experiences.

  Regards

  Mark
