I have to agree.  D-STAR's model has some issues, as recent events 
with VK3RWN showed.  When the gateway died, the old registrations had 
to be purged from the Trust server in the US.  Given there's a lot of 
central control, I don't understand the model Icom used.  Just seems 
to be a recipe for breakage. :-/  The reasons for this design might 
have something to do with allocating IP addresses, since these are 
(from what I understand) allocated by the gateway.

But we're stuck with it.  I'm sure Richard and Peter can explain in 
more detail. :)
