[Dstar] Registration

Mike,
In answer to your question:
Richard Hoskin advised, via this group, that the Gateway server had been
repaired on 24 Feb and that it he hoped it would be returned to the site
in the next few weeks. He had set it up at a temporary location to
allow people to re-register.
He then advised on 2 March that it had been taken offline, from its
temporary location, in preparation for relocation back to the repeater
site in the near future.
The Gateway had suffered a major problem originally requiring a complete
rebuild. Since Richard's email on 24 Feb there has been a
teleconference with a number of D-STAR Gateway administrators from
around Australia and work has been undertaken by several people to
develop and test backup and recovery scripts. This has been designed to
minimise the impact if this unfortunate event occurs again. All of this
takes time. In most circumstances each visit to a repeater site takes
at least 1/2 day, so it makes more sense to plan and prepare properly,
than to rush a service back into operation which will probably require
further visits. Please remember that this is a hobby and people do
things when they can, unless of course you would like to start paying
commercial rates for a commercial grade of service.
Regards,
David Tilson, VK3UR
