[Dstar] D-Plus Dashboards for VK - some have dissappeared

The thing is Ben, the locals don't "need" to change, but they shouldn't
stop those wishing to experiment with new modes from doing so... this is
something new, it's not too scary and it's lots of fun. I heard someone
on our 2m repeater a few months ago who thinks that FM, repeaters and
internet linking is a waste of time and anyone who doesn't know morse
code isn't an amateur operator. This is the WRONG attitude.
Surely someone in Mount Gambier has an ADSL connection that they don't
max out every month, a single repeater module doesn't use that much
bandwidth. Maybe someone there can build up a DV Node Adapter and get a
local Dplus hot spot on-air on a simplex frequency at the clubs
headquarters. How many have D-Star radios in town and the immediate area?
If I make it to the convention this year, I will bring some of my home
brew D-Star gear along to set up at the scout hall. There are lots of
guys out there building D-Star gear, a lot of it isn't any more
complicated than a PIC based repeater controller.
SERG had better hurry up, the half price for clubs D-Star deal is ending
at the end of the financial year. Time to embrace the future! (-:
Michael.
