Hi All

I have just acquired a 23cn DV and DD unit also a 70cm unit (which has to go
back to get modified for Australian use as it is a USA version) which will
be deployed shortly after also having some issues trying to find some decent
di/triplexing equipment for the 23cm so the southeast section of VK4 will
have a second complete setup. VK4RWN the WIA sponsored one down the Gold
Coast and my own privately sponsored one VK4RDS which in the next week or so
will finally go up on site at Maleny about 60 km north of Brisbane in around
a week. The main problem has been a site change and getting the high speed
data link required out of the radio site to the internet. Currently there is
a 5.8ghz link to another site at Maleny then a hop of about 45km on 5.8ghz
to our site at Ocean View then another 20km 2.4 ghz hop down here to my
workshop which has access to a adsl2 link to the net.

Infrastructure for these repeaters can be quite complex and also expensive
and patience is a virtue so please bare with everyone involved in the WIA
and associated clubs and also us private guys trying to put up great
systems. Dstar is still relatively new and we are all learning new
technicques and trying to fastrack new computing and routing and knowledge
skills required to get these systems up and running reliably. Its pretty
easy to go out and buy a Dstar radio even though they are a bit pricey but
try going out and buying and fitting up a complete DStar repeater system
with diplexers and triplexers then organizing a reliable fast internet link
for it all also uninterruptable power supply systems for all the sites and
access points.

It will slowly get there with all this stuff so please be patient there are
lots of people working their butts off so you can have good reliable systems
all over Australia

Regards

Mark Kyle

Well i hope they get deployed!

Don't want to open up too big a can o worms here but remember we are all
volunteers. We don't get paid for what we do, we do it cause we enjoy it.
That's what Ham radio is, a hobby and sometimes it comes last on the list.

In VK6 the 23cm Voice repeater is sitting there waiting patiently to be
completed.

The biggest hold up has been getting suitable diplexing equipment to make
this work.

Finally we have made some progress with this and you will see more and more
of these repeaters come on line shortly.

Maybe offer your services as a volunteer to your local club hosting DSTAR
and it might move on quicker.

Best Regards

Are there still plans to deploy the 23cm repeaters kindly donated by Icom?

Or will they just become e-waste?
