Horst,
Whilst you are correct that DD doesn't require a duplexer etc, if it is co
located with a DV repeater, it most certainly does. Whilst there are a
handful of manufacturers who make duplexers/Triplexers suitable, the prices
start at about $2500, typically a lot more.
VK6 was the first to receive the special offer from WIA/Icom, however
certainly wasn't first of the WIA repeaters to come online simply due to the
key people running they show (Myself and Danny VK6ZUK) both worked some
60-80Hr weeks, often away for 2-3 weeks at a time. As such we took almost 12
months to get 2m/70cm/23cmDD up, and now almost another 12months later,
still looking for a 23cm triplexer solution within budget.
We have had our fair share of critics, however fortunately most people who
weren't involved knew the situation and were just happy that we were making
it happen, albeit slow, and shut their traps.
Very little of this could could have been done without the many hours on the
phone to Richard, and many hours of Richard remoted in to our gateway. Our
hats to you Richard!
