Hi Steve,

Well, the 23cm DSTAR scene is not really a goer here in Sydney right now,
hence my previous, somewhat misunderstood postings.
We have done some simplex work with both DV and DD (DD is really the
interesting one, and it does have good potential), but the apathy towards
the mode at the repeater hosting club here means it will probably be a very
long time before we can try DD through a repeater.
10W would certainly be nice to drive an SSPA as you suggested and give
enough power to burn the head off a few sheep over there, especially with a
gain antenna!
I don't know if there would be problems with the switching when driving an
amp though, as the ID-1 in DD mode changes between rx-tx quite rapidly.
Anyway, will be happy to give you our experiences with the mode if we're
still alive when the local repeater manages to attract an antenna.
It is interesting to observe that people automatically assume that one is
not prepared to get involved "hands on" just because one points out
problems.
