I beleive hue heard the same on the analogue repeater.  I cant say hue seen anything on the display but will try to keep an eye on it.

Wenlock, You did not mention where you heard the announcement.

If it was on a dstar (repeater) transmission then a verbal callsign is
not required, as it is transmitted legally in the mycall header there
for anyone to see.

I can qso all day on dstar, and not say my callsign once if I so wish, 
legally.

Of course, if you heard it on a analogue transmission, then you have a 
point.
