G'day all on the list,

My comments here are not aimed at anyone in particular. Please take the time to read on...

It's a new year for D-Star. Another year of big things to come.

D-Star has been running in Australia for only a few years now and it has come a long way since it was first introduced here. There have been network, repeater and gateway issues to work through. Establishing a D-Star repeater/s is a different kettle of fish to setting up an FM repeater. The RF side is often the least of challenges that occur. There is a great deal of cost and complexity on the gateway and network side of D-Star, aside from the RF modules & components. Some or all of this is borne by various individuals, clubs, groups or organisations at one or many sites.

Yes there are issues to work through. Yes there are problems to be solved. Yes there are geographic issues to overcome. Yes there is varying feedback on the way some or many parts of the network function or operate.

I myself have commented on various occasions about the status of some sites, network issues, outages and QRM challenges (especially whilst mobile). Some of this may have been out of school. But I hope most of this has been of a positive bent. I'm passionate about D-Star and I think it's got a bright future. I haven't yet fully utilised all of the features & functions of D-Star. But it's horses for courses. It's not for everyone. I'm not big on HF, PSK, ATV but I love 2 metres and upwards though microwave, involvement in infrastructure & repeater projects, IRLP, field day weekends and of course D-Star.

There's a few things that crop up along the way that we need to sort through. We all fail on occasions. We all go through a purple patch. Those of us that have been operating on D-Star for a while need to continue flying the flag, encouraging new players to the mode, assisting some of the newbie's, promoting developments that come along and maintaining the momentum that has been generated thus far.

It's 2010, it's a new year - so let's clear the slate, start afresh and all work together in a positive light, to make D-Star better than what it already is.

I hope to catch you on D-Star!

Cheers and all the best,
