Testing I've done thus far, is that using DV has a
better usable range than FM on the same band, power, antenna, etc. Simplex DV
transmissions have a better usable range than simplex FM. Compare apples with
apples. Compare VK3RBA-B vs VK3RBA70cmFM which shares common equipment.

The problem thus far has been trying to find a
couple of stations that are D-Star capable that are ideally located. I've also
tried to put the word out prior to Spring & Summer VHF/UHF Field Days for
anyone wishing to do some D-Star DX testing but get little response - perhaps I
haven't been posting messages in the right areas.

Maybe we should start promoting some serious D-Star
DX for the upcoming Spring VHF/UHF Field Day...?? Now that there's more capable
operators around perhaps it's a possible thing.
